Born March 26th 1982 to
Melinda Sutton (Mullins), and Bryon Davis, Rodney is the older brother to
Melanie, and half brother to Tiffany Davis. While a junior in high school Rodney
landed his first job in radio as a board operator and Sunday morning disc jockey
for WDIC radio near his home.
After graduating high school Rodney went to work as an
Emergency medical technician for a local ambulance service and left radio for
awhile. But of course he couldn't stay away long. A long time family friend (Mr.
Freddie Phillips) who was doing a classic country show on WNVA in Wise Virginia
ask him, if he (Rodney) would be interested in starting a bluegrass show just
before his show began.
Rodney played bluegrass music for WNVA for close to a year
before he was forced to leave the show due to an automobile accident; he then
turned the show over to one of his long time friends (who still after 8 years is
doing the show every Thursday evening).
After Rodney recuperated from the accident, another
opportunity in radio presented itself to him. The management of WNVA offered
Rodney a job operating the board for remotes and other live broadcasts. Within
months Rodney became the weekend disc jockey, and weekend program director, with
the title of sports producer to follow soon.
Rodney continued to work for WNVA for about 2 years before
he had a job offer at a radio station closer to home, which was WMJD radio. He
started off there operating the broadcast board for live broadcasts. Again, on
the weekends Rodney could be heard on WMJD's sister station WNRG-AM playing
southern gospel music, and producing all the sporting events. Not long after
Rodney started at WMJD, he had the opportunity to fill in for the disc jockey's
playing classic country, and bluegrass music which he continued to do for over a
year.
On June 15, 2002 Rodney married Crystal Davis (Dye). They
now have to beautiful Children Madison, and Dalton.
In June of 2007 Rodney took over the Barnyard Bluegrass
Show and moved the show from Saturday evenings to Monday evenings and started
playing requests from listeners, and holding many contests where he has given
away and still continues to give away prizes. We hope you enjoy the site and for
any questions or comments please let us hear from you by clicking the requests
tab on the home page, there you can submit all your song requests, questions,
and comments.
